Jerry Prete
Jerry has been a firefighter for 35+ years and was an EMT for 26 of those years. He has worked in small rural, suburban and urban areas. He is currently volunteering with Miles City Fire Rescue and Custer County Fire. He has received numerous awards including Firefighter of the Year, Valor award, 1st Responder of the Year X3, Award of Excellence X2 and Lifesaver Award X3. He has been a certified instructor since 2001. First working for Chippewa Valley Technical College, then with MSU Fire Services Training School. He is the eastern regional training manager for MSU FSTS providing training for 20 counties.
Jerry is the state coordinator of the state’s traffic incident management training program. He has conducted over 150 training courses for over 3,000 of our emergency and highway workers. He has been struck twice while working on active incidents on the roadway.
Jerry worked for Wisconsin D.O.T. for three years in the survey and construction divisions. He brings a wealth of experience from both the perspective as a highway worker and a highway responder.

Jim is dedicated to advancing the organization’s mission of improving roadside safety and protecting those who work and respond along Montana’s roadways. With a strong background in public service and a deep respect for first responders and highway professionals, Jim brings leadership, advocacy, and a collaborative spirit to the organization.
In his role as Vice President, Jim supports statewide education efforts, community outreach, and partnerships aimed at increasing awareness of Montana’s Move Over law. His commitment to safety, prevention, and public education helps ensure that Move Over Montana continues to make a meaningful impact—encouraging drivers to slow down, move over, and help save lives.
Vice PresidentKay plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission to improve roadway safety and protect first responders and roadside professionals across the state. With a strong attention to detail and a commitment to service, Kay helps ensure the organization’s operations, records, and communications are handled with accuracy and care.
As Secretary, Kay supports the board and leadership team by maintaining organizational documentation and assisting with coordination efforts that help Move Over Montana effectively deliver education, advocacy, and community outreach. Her dedication and behind-the-scenes leadership are essential to advancing the organization’s goal of safer roads and increased awareness of Montana’s Move Over law.

Michele is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial integrity and stewardship. With a strong commitment to accountability and transparency, Michele ensures that funds are managed responsibly to support the nonprofit’s mission of improving roadway safety and protecting first responders and roadside professionals across Montana.
In her role as Treasurer, Michele supports budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance, helping Move Over Montana remain sustainable and effective in its education, advocacy, and outreach efforts. Her dedication to sound financial management plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s goal of saving lives by encouraging drivers to slow down and move over.

With over 17 years of experience in the fire service and currently serving as a chief officer, Charles brings a unique combination of frontline knowledge, leadership, and strategic perspective to his role. His career in emergency services has given him firsthand insight into the risks faced by first responders and roadside professionals, as well as the life-saving importance of public compliance with traffic safety laws.
In addition to his operational leadership, Charles has experience as a Public Information Officer, where he has developed a deep understanding of the importance of clear, timely communication during critical incidents and everyday public safety education.
Charles plays a key role in bridging the gap between first responders and the communities they serve, helping build trust, awareness, and accountability. Through his expertise, Move Over Montana is better positioned to educate drivers, promote safer roadways, and advocate for those who put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect the public.
